Micropigmentation Pre-Care: How to Prepare for your treatment

What To Do Before Treatment

It's essential to understand Scalp Micropigmentation Pre-Care and how to get the best results before we start.

Think of this stage as setting yourself up for success. A little goes a long way toward preparing your scalp for SMP treatment.

Read on to find out everything you need to know before your first session.

Your Guide to Micropigmentation Pre-Care

BALD CLIENTS

  • Light exfoliation – about 5 days before your session, gently exfoliate to remove dead skin.
  • Moisturise the week leading up - use a simple, water-based moisturiser to keep the skin hydrated.
  • Stay out of the sun - avoid burning or drying out your scalp.
  • Healthy skin only - no sunburn, flaking, eczema, or irritation on the scalp.

DENSITY & HAIR THICKENING CLIENTS

  • Wash your hair before you arrive - clean scalp, no products.
  • Fresh haircut - trim your hair the way you usually wear it.
  • No Minoxidil or topical treatments - stop using Minoxidil at least 2 weeks before your first session, and hold off for 2 weeks after.

HAIR PIECE CLIENTS

  • Remove your system prior to your appointment – remove it for extended periods for at least 7 days before your appointment. Trying to get some sun onto the scalp (without burning it) will also help once we start your SMP and start to bring the scalp and face colour closer together. Be extremely gentle with the scalp skin, as it has likely been covered for a long time.

Scalp Micropigmentation Pre-Care – In a nutshell!

There's not much you need to do to prepare — just a few simple steps that make a big difference. Follow these Micropigmentation Pre-Care tips, and you'll set your scalp up for a smooth, comfortable treatment with the best possible results.

And two last little reminders (that have nothing to do with your scalp but everything to do with your comfort):

👉 Eat before your appointment — nobody wants to sit through a session on an empty stomach.

👉 Wear a dark shirt — because ink splatter and white tees are not a good combo.

Come prepped, come comfy, and let us handle the rest.

Medical Considerations

Some conditions make SMP unsuitable, and others require a doctor's approval before proceeding.

  • Not suitable if: prone to keloid scarring, pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, or had chemotherapy in the last 12 months.
  • Doctor's clearance needed if: you have Type 2 diabetes, are on blood-thinning medication (must be stopped 30 days before), or have recently finished antibiotics (7 days clear).
